AUTISM ASSESSMENT
WHAT IS AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER?
Autism is simply the name given to a type of wiring of our body, from brain to toes. It is characterised by differences in language, motor skills, perception, sensory and executive function.
Autistic boys present differently to their female counterparts, but they both have strengths and difficulties that may be affected by circumstances and can make functioning harder or easier.
IS AN ASSESSMENT NECESSARY?
A formal assessment is not necessary unless you have a specific goal in mind. People undergo a formal assessment for a range of reasons:

They want to better understand their own or their child's neurotype and behaviour

They want guidance on appropriate recommendations to implement at home, in school, at work or within the community

They want to apply for financial support such as under the National Disability Insurance Scheme
HOW WILL AN ASSESSMENT HELP?
There are number of reasons why a formal assessment of autism can be helpful:
1. It can help the individual gain a better understanding of themselves and their experiences, leading to increased self-esteem, confidence and skills.
2. It can serve to support others to better understand the individual and how they may go about supporting them.
3. It can open up avenues to funding bodies, such as NDIS, Education SA/NT and Centrelink, to help access necessary supports, including psychology, occupational therapy, speech pathology and support workers.
WHAT ARE THE FEES FOR AN ASD ASSESSMENT?
In order to ensure that our assessment process and recommendations are as individualised and specific as possible, fees vary according to individualised needs and referral question/s.
